Wayne Jacobsen Calls Jesus’ Sacrifice Act of Loving, Not Angry, God

WHAT:
Author Wayne Jacobsen says that many don’t understand the true meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross. Jacobsen believes that organized religion too often paints the crucifixion as the act of an angry God who demands the sacrifice of an innocent to satisfy His demand for vengeance, rather than the self-giving of a loving God to rescue broken humanity.

Christians will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, April 12. Good Friday, April 10, commemorates Jesus’ death on a cross.

WHO:
Wayne Jacobsen focuses on developing a personal relationship with Christ rather than getting caught up in the rules and regulations of religion.

His two current books are “He Loves Me! Learning to Live in the Father’s Affection,” a work of nonfiction which takes an in-depth look into a loving God, and “So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore,” a fictional account of a man whose views on organized religion are challenged when he meets someone he believes may be one of Jesus’ original disciples.

Jacobsen and his friend Brad Cummings formed Windblown Media in 2007 to publish books that help people develop a closer personal relationship with Christ. Their first title was “The Shack” by William Young, which has since sold more than 7 million copies and became a New York Times No. 1 bestseller.

WHEN/WHERE:
Via telephone or in studio from L.A., by appointment

DETAILS:
Wayne Jacobsen says that for the first thousand years of Christian history, the focus and art of the early believers were fixed on the reality of the Risen Christ living among his people. Then the focus shifted to the suffering Jesus on the cross. But, Jacobsen says, a true reading of the New Testament shows not an angry sacrifice God needed to love us, but a loving action needed in order for us to be reconciled to Him.
